Problem: A reliable drainagesolution is required for a largestudent accommodation project
Solution: Pre-fabricated HDPE drainage pipework

Project overview
Based in Dublin, Ireland, Point Campus is one of the largest ever off-campus student accommodation developments. The 2.3 acre site situated in a prime location in the North Docklands area of Dublin, comprises 944 beds in a mix of4-8 bedroom clusters, each with its own kitchen and living area.
With the development being Designer Group’s largest ever student accommodation project, the program for completion adhered to strict project deadlines. As a result, Site Manager, Sean Gorman, was looking for a reliable drainage solution that was simple and fast to install, without compromising on quality.
DELIVERING THE SOLUTION
“I was impressed by Geberit’s high level of collaboration, not only with the pre-fabricationof the pipework, but the technical support across the whole project. The Geberit team were always on hand to help when needed, and even hosted a product training day for our operatives and senior management.” Sean Gorman, Site Manager
Sean believes Geberit’s professional and dependable approach was key in helping combat the challenge posed by such a large scale development.
Sean continues: “With close to one thousand bathrooms and almost two hundred kitchens, it is 50% larger than any Student Accommodation project Designer Group have delivered previously. The demand for a “right 1st time” and “snag free” project is a major factor in everyaspect of our work and we know that by using Geberit drainage products we will deliver quality first time, every time.”
Why Geberit?
For the installation, Geberit worked collaboratively with the Designer Group team to pre-fabricate and install five thousand meters of HDPE pipework forthe development’s drainage solution.
This is the third project of its kind that Designer Group have undertaken within the student housing sector. In each project, Geberit has successfully delivered drainage solutions, including Geberit’s Silent-db20 drainage. The ease of installation, guaranteed quality and stock availability in previous projects made Geberit the natural choice for the Point Campus development.
Offering a lighter, cheaper and cost-effective alternative to traditional castiron, HDPE has become increasingly popular for commercial installations. The material is welded using electrofusion technology, which boasts a simple and speedy install with permanent tightness and a high tensile strength.
In order to meet the tight development deadlines, Geberit moved fabrication off site and into a designated area within the Geberit training centre. The opportunity to commence fabrication prior to the availability of the site for the install team increased overall project efficiency.
Sean Gorman explains why Geberit’s HDPE drainage system was selected: “We’ve worked with Geberit on similar projects before and they have delivered quality and reliability at every stage of every installation.
