From old to wow Haus am Hof (AT)

A hundred years after it was built, an antique barn from 1921 becomes the light-flooded dream home of Anna and Michael. Interior designer Laura Karasinski created the perfect interior. The bathroom features products from Geberit.

“What fascinates me most about this project is the courage with which Anna and Michael approached it,” says interior designer Laura Karasinski. “Taking out a loan before the age of 30, planning the renovation themselves alongside their jobs, and pushing through the construction phase with all its highs and lows – that takes incredible drive and patience.” The renovation project began in 2021, and a year and a half later, Anna and Michael’s dream home was ready to move into. “We settled in very quickly,” says Anna.

Complete renovation with finesse

The young couple had to completely renovate the barn from the foundation to the roof, yet historic elements were preserved: old bricks found a new place in the walls, antique interior doors were retained, and a wooden beam still bears the engraved year 1921.

Large glass fronts flood the rooms with light, while clay plaster ensures a pleasant indoor climate. The color palette, selected together with Laura Karasinski, adds a cozy atmosphere to the home.

“We love our bright living room. It’s so full of light and radiates a wonderful warmth,” enthuses owner Anna.

Modern comfort in the bathroom

Traditional charm meets modern technology, especially in the bathrooms. The couple opted for products by Geberit.

“We appreciate the simple and timeless design and the high level of comfort, combined with easy cleaning and maintenance,” says Anna.

In the main bathroom, a walk-in shower in sandstone look adds modern accents – with black fittings and the Geberit CleanLine80 shower channel. The AquaClean Mera shower toilet – Geberit’s top model – adds an extra touch of well-being.

The guest bathroom is full of character, featuring green-painted walls (“Sap Green” by Farrow & Ball) and white-grey checkered tiles. The striking, angular Geberit Renova Plan WC contrasts with an antique bedside table that has been converted into a washbasin.

“The barn sparked our imagination. We wanted traces of the past to have their place even after the renovation,’ say Anna and Michael. And they certainly succeeded.
