Dynamics on the river Stadtbootshaus Graz in Austria

The new water sports centre in Graz at the river Mur in Austria offers visitors activities and relaxation - and pioneering sanitary technology from Geberit.

Whether along the riverbank or on the water in a kayak: the Stadtbootshaus Graz in the south of Austria combines relaxation and exercise in equal measure. The new water sports facility has been nestled into the sloping landscape on the banks of the Mur since 2022. Passers-by can watch the sporting activities on the water from the accessible roof of the building and look directly onto the Marburg quay.

Promoting mobility

The old building – a former boat keeper's hut for the River Mur – was too small and was no longer fit for purpose without electricity and a water connection. In order to find a suitable solution for this central location, an architectural competition was organised, which was won by the young Graz architect Nina Kuess and her team. She planned the new city boathouse, taking into account the listed building, nature and existing infrastructure.

The concept aims to actively promote the mobility of visitors. Bicycle parking spaces in the immediate vicinity of the boathouse encourage the use of environmentally friendly modes of transport. The facility houses canoes, kayaks and other boats. It also offers sports clubs and the public space for activities and recreation. In addition to sporting events and training sessions, small festivals are also organised.

Relying on Geberit

The company Wonisch Installationen from Graz is responsible for the building services. Project manager Christian Skamletz decided in favour of the new Geberit FlowFit supply system in order to implement the project on the Mur in the right ‘flow’.

‘We are very happy to be part of this ambitious project and used the new Geberit FlowFit pressing system for the first time. The installation went smoothly and easily, and my installers and I are very happy with it,’ he says.

Other Geberit products were used for the sanitary facilities: installation systems from Huter, the CleanLine shower channel, Silent PP waste pipes and ceramics from the Renova Plan series.

Three advantages of Geberit FlowFit

  • You only need two pressing jaws for eight fitting dimensions.
  • The protective caps protect both pipes and fittings from construction site dust.
  • The inspection window on the fitting prevents errors in the insertion depth of the pipe and ensures reliable processing.
