Geberit, market leader in the manufacture of sanitary, supply and drainage systems, has teamed up with South African adventurer-explorer Mike Horn as he sails around the world, on a project with a strong environmental message.
The expedition, a four year journey aboard the purpose built boat Pangaea, will see young adult volunteers accompany Mike to experience and explore the natural world, learn about the challenges the world faces and possible solutions, and how to bring about change for a sustainable future.
Geberit will participate in the project via specific initiatives to renovate the sanitation systems of schools, hospitals and other social units along the Pangaea route. Geberit employees will plan, prepare and deliver sanitation projects with the Pangaea team in many areas along the way, including South America, Asia and Africa.
Mark Larden, Managing Director of Geberit UK, says: “The chance to get involved with this project was too good to pass up. We want to help educate local people to use fresh water effectively, and on how to install proper sanitation systems in order to reinforce the importance of hygiene in their daily lives. We all need to become more sensitive to the risks and threats to our civilisation, brought about by the way we now live our lives.
“Geberit is proud to be part of this great enterprise, to support it and to contribute to specific projects which will improve the daily lives of so many people who do not yet have access to clean water and proper sanitation.”
Mike Horn is recognised worldwide as one of the greatest modern day explorers. His amazing journeys include a solo, un-motorised traverse of South America, the circumnavigation of the world around the equator and a solo navigation of the Arctic Circle.
