The Name of the Frame is Geberit
Simon Spridgeon of Geberit looks at the purpose designed frame system for wall-mounted bathrooms.

Watching our TV’s, we could be forgiven for thinking that every home in the country is undergoing a makeover. But home improvements are big business as builders are very well aware. It’s never been busier, especially for new kitchens and bathrooms, and the homeowners choices are very much influenced by these TV makeovers and magazine articles describing new products and ideas.

One particular growth area is in wall mounted bathrooms which are extremely popular because they give a sleek, modern, minimalist look which is highly fashionable throughout the home. Wall mounted bathrooms have actually been around for a long time but are only comparatively recently being seen as the preferred design option.

The consumer has, in the past, been a little fearful as to whether the wall will support the weight, when apparently unsupported. The builder has been a little reluctant to recommend wall mounted because he has had to find suitable fixing points for chair brackets and has had to site build a ‘one off’ panel system.

The perfect solution for both builder and homeowner is a purpose designed frame system which totally overcomes all these problems.

In fact, the Geberit Duofix frame system has been available for around 20 years, during which time it has been perfected and is now the industry’s standard for wall mounted bathrooms, making life very quick and simple for the builder and producing a first class result every time, with all plumbing and pipework neatly concealed behind the frames.

The Geberit Duofix frame system is an all in one, prefitted system complete with cistern and connection pipework already incorporated into the frame. It eliminates the need for difficult to fix chairs or brackets to support the sanitaryware and requires just two floor and two wall fixing points for simple fixing with total stability and rigidity tested to take a 400kg (64 stone) load.

There is even a specially designed corner frame which makes the traditionally difficult corner situation into a stylish design feature and allows ducting to continue uninterrupted around the corner.

The narrow frame assembly allows wall hung sanitaryware to be used even in very compact bathrooms where space is at a premium and is easy to install, allowing space for the soil stack behind it. Duofix frames are available for WC’s, bidets, washbasins and urinals and can be simply bolted to the floor and placed pre or post wall giving those designing the bathrooms the complete freedom to create a stunning room without expensive structural building work.

Installation sequence

  1. Measure and mark the area to be boxed in.
  2. Screw the Geberit system rail to the floor ceilings and walls. You will only need a 13mm socket for the whole installation.
  3. Install Duofix frames into rail system. Level using the adjustable feet incorporated within the Duofix system.
  4. Install support legs and full height studs into rail system.
  5. Install water supply, drainage and tap connectors.
  6. Cut plasterboard holes where necessary.
  7. Overboard with plasterboard and seal gaps.
  8. Tile.
  9. Install sanitaryware, taps and WC flush plate. Note that the patented Geberit cistern enables all maintainable parts to be accessed through the flushing panel. The cistern is a 3/6 litre dual flush providing water saving.

Note that the same Duofix system can be used for dry wall or pre-wall installation and comes with a range of height options.

Taking a quick look at the installation sequence should certainly overcome any fears builders may have on recommending wall mounted sanitaryware for the future with the Geberit Duofix frame system to take all the hassle out of the installation.
