Industry Pioneer
Over the years, Geberit has turned into a pioneer of environmental management in the field of sanitary technology. For the first time in 1987, Geberit anchored the demand for the conservation of nature and preservation of its resources in its corporate Credo.

In 1990, a comprehensive environmental strategy was developed. One of the first measures was to establish annual site eco-balances and life cycle assessments. In 1996/1997, the four biggest production sites of the Geberit Group were certified according to EMAS and ISO 14001 (standards for environmental management systems).

Environmental Management

The environmental management system of Geberit is based on the environmental principles of the Geberit Group, which are binding for all companies. The managing directors of the Geberit companies were given direct responsibility for the environmental protection. They are professionally supported by the local environmental managers. Moreover, internal environmental teams regularly meet to work on environmental issues. To ensure a continuous improvement of the environmental performance, environmental goals and measures are defined and internal audits are carried out. Geberit's environmental values are outlined in the 2007 Geberit Code of Conduct.
Site Eco-balances

Geberit measures the environmental performance of the production sites by site eco-balances. They allow for a comparison of the environmental impact of the individual sites amongst each other and over time, so that concrete measures for improvement of the environmental performance can be identified. In the UK the Aylesford site is included in the site eco-balance.
