Soil and Waste Piping Questions
Q. Why do you have expansion joints in pipe work?
A. We have expansion joints to accommodate expansion and contraction in the pipe work due to changes in temperature, whether it is ambient temperature or from the nature of the discharge through the pipe work. Expansion joints must be included and anchored every 5 metres horizontally or every floor vertically.

Q. Can you use automatic air admittance valves externally?
A. No, due to the risk of the mechanism becoming frozen in cold conditions therefore not being able to function correctly.

Q. Does Geberit make uPVC products?
A. No. Our pipework and fittings are HDPE, manufactured to BBA 92/2796.

Q. Can I use other manufacturers' HDPE electroweld couplings with your pipes and fittings, or other manufacturers' tools with your couplings?
A. We only guarantee our own couplings will work with our fittings and pipe when used in conjunction with our approved tooling.

A. It is possible, but inadvisable unless treated. The pipe including the fittings should be painted in accordance with Code of Practice Q 151. The alternative solution is to use Mepla.
