For the first time Geberit has published a Sustainability report after many years of sustainable business management to state concepts of sustainability, performance and tasks for the future.
The world population quadrupled in the 20th century leading to a shortage of resources and amongst other factors to a severe rise in the worldwide demand for water.
Geberit is one of the environmental pioneers in the building sector and has achieved this thanks to consistent environmental management. Environmentally friendly products and a diligent handling of water, all form part of this philosophy, as do eco-efficient processes in Geberit’s production plants, the economic use of resources and the broad use of eco-balances.
In 1997 The Environmental Resources Management carried out a comprehensive due diligence assessment. The environmental examination of the entire Group certified Geberit a ranking among the top 5% of the 300 companies audited.
Geberit regularly monitors the extent to which the company has met its internal ecological requirements.
The Geberit Group has a 130 year history and is in a permanent process of innovation. It continuously develops new integrated solutions aimed at facilitating and accelerating the installation of sanitary systems in buildings. In doing so, global trends such as water saving, noise insulation and hygiene are taken into consideration at an early stage during the development process.
Geberit manufactures products, which use water as efficiently as possible. These include touch free, electronically operated taps, which combine a high degree of hygiene with the efficient use of water. In other words water only runs when it is needed. This is of prime importance in commercial and public sectors. Geberit’s dual flush WC mechanism can reduce the WC flush volume for 1 person from 70 litres per day to 18.
There are many interesting facts in the Sustainability Report including that 77% of all waste generated within Geberit is recycled. The rest is incinerated with energy recovery or disposed of in landfills. 95% of despatches to Italy are achieved by rail!
Geberit believes in being serious about the environment and what we do within it, that there is a responsibility to look after the world and those in it, also that examples need to be set to other nations and refuses to ruthlessly profit at the expense of the environment.
